Dr. Tony Ho MBBS, FRCS (Glasgow), FRCOphth (U.K.), FAMS is is a respected figure in the Singapore refractive surgery arena with 25 years of specialty experience. He is an elected Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Royal College of Ophthalmology U.K., and recipient of the Singapore Public Service Commission Merit Scholarship. He is the founding director of the Eye Care Clinic (est. 1993) and Clearvision Eye Clinic & LASIK Centre (est. 2001).
He is also a two time recipient of the Singapore Higher Manpower Development Plan scholarship under which he spent three years in sub-specialty training at three world-renowned eye clinics namely the Tennant Eye Institute of Glasgow, Scotland, the Moorfields Eye Hospital of London, U.K. and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute of Florida, United States where Dr. Ho obtained formal accreditation in medical retinal and vitreo-retinal surgery.
Dr. Ho has authored a number of scientific papers and six books on eye care. His first book, “The Complete Eye Care Book” garnered the Singapore National Book Council Merit Award in 1994. His second book “18 Steps to Myopia Control garnered a 5-star review rating on Amazon.com. Both these books sold out their print runs. His third book addresses the two ophthalmic issues close to the public’s heart – “Managing Childhood Myopia and Lasik eye Surgery”. His other publications include “Epi-Lasik”, “A Parent’s Guide to Childhood Myopia Control” and “Beyond Lasik” which introduces the public to the modern version of PRK refractive surgery – TransPRK.
In 1990, Dr. Ho published a landmark scientific paper; introducing a novel method of performing laser iridotomy for glaucoma prevention and management. Fast forward to today and Dr. Ho’s described sequential argon-Nd:YAG iridotomy is now widely employed and recognised by doctors around the world as the de-facto standard for laser iridotomies in dark brown irises.
In 2001, Dr. Ho founded the Clearvision Eye Clinic as a dedicated laser refractive surgical centre with core mission to provide safe, accurate and cost-efficient laser vision correction. Alway embracing change and improvement, Dr. Ho is respected as pioneer and advocate in the modern no-cut methods of laser vision correction, namely Epi-Lasik and TransPRK laser vision correction. Today, using these methods, the centre continues to help patients to “see clearly, safely”.
Always embracing change and innovation, Dr. Ho has been both a pioneer and strong advocate of surface-based TransPRK and SMILE pro lenticule based laser vision correction methods, as a safe way for patients to achieve their dream of clear vision.
Dr. Ho has been a long time advocate of atropine therapy for childhood myopia control since the early 1990s. He has written and presented a number of scientific papers on the concept of weekend 1% atropine eyedrops therapy and still champions this regime today as a safe, effective and patient-parents friendly method of childhood myopia control.
As Director and Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, Dr. Tony Ho top passion is still to help patients see clearly, safely through flapless, bladeless procedures like Safe Sight TransPRK and SMILE pro. He also sees patients with eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts, and helps children with controlling their myopia progression, using therapies such as atropine eye drops.
Dr. Ho’s top passion other loves are the outdoors and sports. He was a former national rower, awarded scout and swimming captain. Today, he swims, bikes and runs regularly and is pursuing a dream to circumnavigate the world.
